Week-long Trip Farewell

Hello! Shortly, I'll be traveling North to spend a bit of time with my dad and to visit my extended family. I'm excited and torn, for this means that I won't see my boyfriend for a week, but a bit of distance does the heart good, right?

....But who would possibly want to leave this much cuteness behind?!
I caught these two spooning the other morning and sneaked a photo :P

Okay, and maybe lengthy plane rides alone and awkward airport chit-chat aren't very high on my list of "things I like to do on my spare time" either, but I know that once I get there, I'm going to have a beautiful time, and even if I don't, I will have beautiful photos to share!

I wasn't going to bring my DSLR, for fear that its bulky nature would persuade me to leave it in the hotel room, but I bought this cheap and handy little day traveler's case:

Much better than a large carrying bag, right? Its friendly purple color with a pop of bright pink on the inside makes me excited to take photos on my trip, so expect mucho!

My trip is so close, and I'm not even done packing! I'll let you in on a secret if you promise not to tell- I'm a bit of a procrastinator. Plus, I have the tendency to pack too much (this may or may not be an understatement), can you tell?...This isn't even all of it!

....And I considered myself a minimalist...

I'm packing a few things on my carry-on backpack for the trip, too. Lots of vegan goodies, of course, so that I won't starve in the airport between plane switches, and my Nintendo D.S. with Pokemon White 2 so that I can catch 'em all instead of partaking in that awkward airport chit-chat I spoke of earlier.

What are your must-have items to get you through long trips?

The Kandi Corner has a new Etsy site!

If you haven't already noticed, I've added a little Etsy shop button under my Archive on my sidebar! My boyfriend has had a Facebook page, The Kandi Corner, for a little over a month now and has already received 240 likes! He's been selling and taking custom orders through the Facebook page, but we decided to open up an Etsy account for his Kandi creations last night. To check out what he's currently selling, or to buy a custom Kandi piece, you can head on over to his brand new Etsy shop here, or on my sidebar.

Here are some of our favorite Kandi pieces that we've created and sold or given away:

"Pika Pika" Cuff with Small Pikachu Doll:
 Charmander Mask:
Red Fox Cuff with Ears and Tail:
 Gold Pokeball Mask:
 Long "PLUR" Rainbow Necklace:
 Kandi Flower Goddess Headband:

Meet Oreo

I don't quite recall if Oreo has ever been properly introduced, so I took the chance to snap a few photos today while he was sleeping in his basket by my window. Oreo's been with us for almost thirteen years (hence the not-so-creative name), but he still plays like a kitten- doing 180's in the air for his favorite toy, a piece of green string, and running through his crinkly tunnel like a wild lion. His eyesight is declining, so much of the world is scary to the poor guy, and it takes him a very long time to get acclimated to even the smallest of spaces- but his basket by the window is his "safe space". As soon as the sun rises and hits his face, he lays in his basket for most of the day, sunbathing, until we interest him in a game of play, or offer him his favorite soft food. Oreo usually stays at my mother's (although I've always considered him "my cat"), but she's out of town and so we're watching him for a week or so. Isn't he a cutie? We're also watching my mom's dog, so maybe you'll meet him soon, too :)

Do you have any pets? I'd love to meet them!

Drool-Worthy "Late Monday" Favorites- Kawaii Edition!

Happy "Late Monday"! I decided that this week's Drool-Worthy Favorites would be dedicated to my favorite Kawaii finds. So what is kawaii? Urban Dictionary defines it as, "An adjective in Japanese meaning " pretty; cute; lovely; charming; dear; darling; pet" It's stem is two kanji meaning "can love". It is commonly used by anime and manga fans." All I know is that after searching Kawaii products on the interwebs, I was immediately overloaded with cuteness!!! Above are some of my favorite Kawaii items that i found, and below is a description of each, so that you can buy, or just drool over them :)

1. Orange Fox Charm Necklace: It's a fox, it's only $14, it's handmade, and it's freaking adorable. That is all. You can find the cutie here from the Etsy site, PeeWeesPlayHouse.

2. Bunny Tote Bag: For $25, I would wear this EVERYWHERE! If you haven't noticed, I have a thing for bunnies, and this bunny bag couldn't get any cuter. Plus, it's handmade from the Etsy site, HappyCosmos, where she's got tons of other kawaii items.

3. White Fleece Bunny Hat: You can never have enough bunnies. I would create an EDM event outfit solely around this cuteness. You can find this hat and others like it from the Etsy site PawStar here for $25.

4. Mushroom House Backpack: This backpack is straight out of a fairytale. Better yet, it's vegan! It's a bit too pricey for me, but you can add a bit of whimsy to your wardrobe with this backpack by buying it from Modcloth for $69.99 here. AND my birthday is coming up in . You know, just saying ;)

5. Cute Animal Subject Envelopes: These, I can afford. Why not make organizing cute? These kawaii animal envelopes for $3.65 at CoolPencilCase would make me smile and maybe even give me a bit of motivation to sort out my paper drawers!

6. Calico Mommy Cat Necklace: A necklace like this could add the perfect pinch of quirky-cuteness to any outfit. It sells for $12 at Hey Chickadee, and there's plenty of other equally cute jewelry on the website. I had a hard time choosing just one, but I couldn't help but giggle when I saw this cutie.

7. Moon Bunny Tights: I couldn't get away from Hey Chickadee! I stumbled upon these adorable tights for $23 in a lovely pastel purple. I would feel like I was walking straight out of a kawaii anime when wearing these tights! I'm not sure that I'd know what to pair them with- what do you think?

DIY: Dreamcatcher Inspirational Pin-Board

Previously, I had created a piece of inspirational, dry-erase wall art so that I could write my morning to-dos that help me stay emotionally and physically healthy every day. My functional wall-art helped me so much, that I decided I wanted a similar, interchangeable wall-art piece.

My boyfriend and I often visit the local craft store for Kandi making supplies, and while he browses the bead section, I find myself roaming the rest of the store for goodies and deals. This time, when I walked by a wooden embroidery hoop that was on sale for $2, the perfect interchangeable wall-art came to me! I decided that I would make a large dreamcatcher, using the hoop as the base, and that in the inner web of string, I could use miniature clothespins to pin up whatever inspired me for the week! I loved this idea, because the options for pinning were endless- fortune cookies, photos from magazines, stamps from old postcards...

Creating the dreamcatcher pin-board was much easier than the final product would lead one to think. Below, I've created an easy DIY with photos and steps to follow so that you lovelies can have as much fun as I did by creating your own :)

You will need:

From Left to Right & Top to Bottom: 1 Large Embroidery Hoop, Suede Cord in the color of your choice, 1 pack of Feathers (I bought a second because I liked the longer feathers), Optional: Glitter paint & Acrylic paint in the color of your choice, Tiny Spring Clothespins, Superglue, Scissors, String in the color of your choice, Bead(s) for the string-web in color of your choice, and a handful or so of Pony Beads in the color of your choice (not shown above).

What to do:

1. Dab a dot of Superglue at the top of the embroidery hoop. Place the beginning of your Suede String here, and wrap around the rest of the hoop evenly, without overlapping. When you reach the end of the hoop, cut the Suede String and hold it down with one more dab of Superglue.

2. Cut off a long piece of the Regular String to start the inner web of the dreamcatcher. I guesstimated, but you could easily measure around the hoop to know how much Regular String to cut off. Take a pencil or a light pen to make marks where you will tie off the string. You will want to make 8 even segments, so that you will make 8 knots with the Regular String around the wrapped hoop.

Below is a photo of how your dreamcatcher should look when you're finished with the first 2 steps.

3. Creating the rest of the inner web of the dreamcatcher is much simpler than it looks! Step two is basically repeated until you reach the middle opening. Cut another piece of long, Regular String and, this time, you will tie a knot in the middle of each segment. Make sure to keep the string and knots tight, or your dreamcatcher will look like a tangly mess! By keeping the string tight and continuing the same method with each piece of Regular String, you will create the diamond-shaped pattern. If you prefer to entirely fill your dreamcatcher with the diamond web, you may, but the more string that is added, the harder it becomes to keep the string and knots tight. I threaded on 1 Bead after the 4th or 5th row, but you may choose to have multiple beads in multiple places, or none!

Below is a close-up of what your inner web of the dreamcatcher should look like, and where I chose to thread my dark-blue bead.

4. Congratulations- the base of your dreamcatcher is finished! I chose to add feathers to the bottom, and to both the left and right side of my dreamcatcher. To do so, simply take a piece of the same Suede Cord and loop-knot it around the bottom of your dreamcatcher. Then, add one or two Pony Beads to each hanging side. Add the amount of Feathers of your choice under each Pony Bead (I chose to fit 2 or 3 on each hanging side). The Feathers should fit snugly under the Pony Beads and not budge, but to be safe, I added one dot of Superglue on each feather. I repeated this step once again to add lower feathers, too.

Below is a picture showing the knot and placement of the hanging feathers.

5. To end each side of Feathers and Suede, I added 2 Pony Beads at the end, and then proceeded to thread the end of the suede through the higher Pony Bead. This means that through the upper Pony Bead (the white bead in the photo below), there the Suede has been thread through the bead twice. This secures the Suede so that you won't find any lost beads or feathers on the floor!

Below is a photo of what the bottoms of your Feather & Suede strings should look like.

6. Repeat the making of the feather-suede strings for both the right and left sides. If you're going to hang your dreamcatcher, you can add a piece of Suede string to the top of the dreamcatcher like I did mine.

You've now made your dreamcatcher! Yours should look something like mine below :)

But WAIT! You're not finished! Now you have the chance to turn your beautiful dreamcatcher into a functional piece of inspirational wall-art through a very simple method. Continue on with the last two steps below.

7. I chose to paint my Miniature Clothespins (that you can find at most craft stores) with Glitter Paint, but painting them with a lovely Acrylic, or even keeping them natural and bare would be cute, too.

8. Gather up a few pieces of visual inspiration. Anything from magazine photos, fortune cookies, old movie ticket-stubs that remind you of a special date, or special pictures of your family and friends. Use 1 or 2 Miniature Clothespins per item, and then pin away on the inner portion of your dreamcatcher's web!

Below are close-ups of the Inspirational items that I chose to pin on my dreamcatcher. From left to right & top to bottom: A cute note that I found attached to this Kawaii Kitty from my boyfriend, An inspirational note that I found on the floor my 1st year of college, a photo of my mother and her beloved pup, Buddy, an old piece of map that I cut into a heart, and a recent fortune cookie that reads, "Opportunities surround you if you know where to look."

My Dreamcatcher Inspirational Pin-Board turned out even better than I'd imagined! I love that I can take down and put up whatever I please, and that this large dreamcatcher would've sold in stores for so much more money that it took me to make it! Sounds like a success to me :)

I decided to hang my dreamcatcher above my bed to remind me of all of the things that I'm thankful for, before I go to bed. What are you going to pin on your hand-made dreamcatcher, and where are you going to hang yours? I'd love to see your finished products too :)

Playing Catch-Up and Liebster Award Nomination

Hello lovelies! Just a quick catch-up: I haven't been able to post this week because I've been busy with the new job, and I had to pick up a few extra shifts because one of our employees was away. Although exhausted from my busy week, I've missed blogging so much! It just shows how therapeutic I find posting and chatting with fellow bloggers, and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon :)

I've created one of my favorite DIY's I've ever done, and I can't wait to share it! Even more exciting is that I was asked to do a guest post for a fellow blogger. I've decided not to unveil my DIY here until I find out if she'd rather me make it exclusive to her blog, or if we can double post. If she asks for exclusivity, I will still share a sneak-peek and, of course, the link to my DIY that will be on her lovely blog. Stay tuned!

An equally exciting thing that happened during my absence is my nomination by my friend at Allerdings for the Liebster Award! I'm tickled that she thought of nominating me, and I can't wait to think of questions to ask 11 other new bloggers that I will nominate!

If you'd like more information on the Liebster Award, you can visit Allerding's post here :)
The following are questions that Allerdings has asked me to answer as part of being a new blogger and receiving the Liebster Award.

1. If any character from a novel could be your best friend, who would you want it to be and why?
That would have to be The Little Prince. The Little Prince was given to me by my 1st-grade teacher when I was younger and I was reading past the grade-level books that our class was being given. At the time, I loved the book, but I didn't fully grasp the adult concepts in the story. Now when I read it, I'm amazed at the wisdom of the children's tale, and my affinity for it only grew when I found out that it was originally written in French. If I ever met The Little Prince, I would invite him to tea and chat for hours about the things that matter- you know, the stars, roses, foxes, and how to keep sheep from eating our flowers. If you haven't read the book, you must!

 2. What dreams have you fulfilled?
Four years ago, I had a dramatic, teenage Tumblr in which I wrote, "I hope that one day, I'm able to look at my life and be content and happy in the exact place I'm in, doing whatever I'm doing, and know that 'this is where I'm supposed to be in life' ". Not long ago, I was reminiscing and laughing at my old self on Tumblr and when I read it, I almost cried, because I'm in that place right now. And, I think that as time passes, that feeling that I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be in my life will only grow, because I've found peace within myself and my life that I can carry with me through all of my ventures :)

 3. Do you collect anything?
Yes, but not purposely. I realized that I've began a collection of pretty bottles and jars. Some, thrifted, and others reused from pasta sauce, etc. I then tend to collect things inside of the mason jars, like pretty gems and stones. I suppose I'm sounding like less of a collector and more of a pack-rat, hm?

4. What is the number one reason you started your blog?
As an outlet for my creativity and a platform to be able to share it!

5. When not blogging, what do you do for fun?
I love to craft, but I suppose that goes along with blogging! I also like video games (Pokemon's my favorite, shhh), cooking, playing with Belly-Rabbit, and making Kandi.

6. If you have a Time Machine, where would you go?
I know this might sound cliche, but I wouldn't go anywhere. To go to the past, I could potentially mess up something in the future, and if I went to the future, I'd miss out on what I have in the present!

7. What's your guilty pleasure?
FRENCH FRIES. I could eat french fries every day, all day. And green tea.

8. What's your favorite romantic comedy?
Oh, gosh. I haven't seen a romantic comedy in quite a while. I have an older one in mind, but I can't think of the name and the plot is too complicated to explain! My second favorite older one would be The Break-Up.

9. If you were on a desert island, what 3 items would you want with you? (You have water/food. doesn't count.)
I almost said my boyfriend, but then realized that he's not an item! Hm... I would want what ever 3 things that would help me get off that island the quickest. Items aren't all that important to me, it's the people in my life that counts, and I wouldn't want to be away from them for so long.

10. What is one skill or hobby you've always wanted to learn?
I've always wanted to learn to play the guitar. I've made lists ever since I was little that consisted of things I wanted to do that day, and I swear, one of them has always been "Practice guitar". I have a guitar, I just find myself choosing other activities over learning guitar. But, no excuses, right? Maybe I'll pick it back up again soon :)

11. What quality do you find most attractive in others?
When people are open-minded and grounded in who they are. I especially appreciate people who show to not be judgmental and are able to love and accept others who aren't like themselves.

This was fun! I will be nominating 11 others through E-mail, with 11 new questions very soon. If you'd like to keep updated on who I nominate, you can check back here, as I plan to add their names and links so that you guys can check out some of my favorite new bloggers too!
